Insurance – Protect Your Family

INsuring the future

Premiums Accepted ... Claims Denied.     Don't Get Caught In This Trap!

Mortgage insurance that is sold by banks when your mortgage is processed can be very confusing and misleading.   The companies responsible use something called ‘post-claim underwriting’ which means the underwriting (or qualifying) is done AFTER you die.   In other words, you buy insurance, pay your premiums, die, and only then does the insurance company decide if you are eligible for coverage or not, by scrutinizing your medical history in every way possible (even though you’ve been paying premiums all along).   And most often? … claims are denied - because the forms are very confusing and misleading - on purpose! (they don’t want to pay out the insurance money so they do everything they can to avoid it).

Check out this video that explains how this all works. And the serious implications it brings.

We ensure that you are qualified BEFORE you ever pay any insurance premiums.   You know up front if you’re covered or not.    And that means no nasty surprises when your family needs the insurance the most.    Call or come in and see us…let’s get you covered properly.

Did you know?

  • 1 in 3 people, on average, will be disabled for 90 days or longer at least once before age 65. If it happens to your family, how will you pay your mortgage, daycare, and other bills?
  • How long the average 65 year-old Canadian is expected to live; and what it costs for private accommodation in a government subsidized and regulated facility in Canada?
  • Many Canadians qualify for a better health-class rating than they have with their current provider. Do you?
  • If one of your parents or loved ones reached the point where they could no longer care for themselves, do you know what the 'eligibility rules' are for living care, and who determines ‘eligibility’?
  • 1 in 2.4 men and 1 in 2.7 women living in Canada will develop cancer. You can’t put a price tag on helping a loved one survive a serious illness, but how will you cope with the bills?
  • Dental plans can give you as much or as little coverage as you require. What are your requirements?

We've provided information below for all of these very important concerns.

Loss of Income / Critical Illness

Recovery will be your first priority. But how will you afford the costs that could be involved?
You need to know what is covered and what isn't. Don't let an unexpected illness destroy all that you have worked so hard for.

Consider these statistics and facts:*

  • 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women are predicted to develop heart in disease in their lifetime.
  • There are 40,000 to 50,000 strokes in Canada each year.

During their lifetime:

  • 1 in 2.4 men and 1 in 2.7 women living in Canada will develop cancer.
  • 1 in 9 women will develop breast cancer.
  • 1 in 11 men and 1 in 18 women will develop lung cancer.

An estimated 2,798 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer every week.

An estimated 50,000 Canadians, twice as many women as men, have Multiple Sclerosis.

* Statistics sources: Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2004. 2004 Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. National Cancer Institute of Canada: Canadian Cancer Statistics 2004.

Here are some survival statistics:

  • 86% of hospitalized heart attack patients survive - the percentage is higher for those with their first heart attack, and lower for those with recurrent heart attacks.
  • 80% of stroke patients survive the initial event.

This means that not only could you be faced with potentially overwhelming family issues, but they could be compounded by financial burdens. It’s hard enough surviving the emotional struggle, let alone adding financial worries. If you are diagnosed with one of the critical illnesses covered by a policy, you may receive a lump sum payment to spend as you like. You get the coverage you need, for your specific circumstances.

How much critical illness coverage might you need?
Many people haven’t thought about what could happen if they lost their income. It doesn’t take long to figure out how your family might fare, should you be faced with an unexpected occurrence. Below is a link to a calculator that will help you understand your income replacement needs.
